UK Training Kenyan Army To Counter IED Threat

Personnel from RAF Honington are training Kenyan Army personnel who will be deploying to Somalia as part of the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The RAF Regiment gunners have already started teaching techniques at Isiolo’s Kenyan Defence Force School of Infantry.

Kenyan personnel are learning specialist tracking to help to counter the threat from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Somalia.

The Kenyan Defence Forces requested British military assistance after tracking was identified as a capability gap.

Flight Lieutenant Graeme Royston, Team Leader, said: “The highest number of Kenyan deaths in the fight against Al-Shabab are due to IEDs.
