Five Al Shabab Members Arrested

Agents of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), arrested five members of the Somali anti-government organization Al Shabab in the north of the capital, authorities said today.

‘The arrests were made overnight on Saturday during an operation conducted in the Suka-Holaha neighborhood’, said to reporters Abdikamil Mo’allim Shukri, Spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Security.

The spokesman pointed out that NISA received intelligence information before carrying out the operation against the Al Shabab members in the district of Yakshid, where security forces arrested five members of that group. He described the operation as ‘very successful’.

At the same time, a military court sentenced to death 43 members of Al Shabab for their involvement in attacks in the state of Puntland in northeast Somalia, Regional Attorney General Abdullahi Hersi Eed said.

Due to those attacks 24 soldiers were killed and nearly 70 people were injured. During the legal process, the accused pleaded guilty.

After a period of stability, in recent weeks were reported clashes between anti-government and security forces in Puntland.
