KDF kills 21 al Shabaab in Somalia

The Kenya Defense Forces have killed 21 al-Shabaab militants in Dobley area, Somalia.

The troops had come under attack from the terrorists as they traveled from Dobley to Tabda on Tuesday, KDF spokesman David Obonyo said.

He said among those killed include a junior level Commander, Salad Bart who is believed to have been in-charge of the group.

KDF said there were no casualties on the Kenyan side.

“We recovered 17 AK 47 rifles, five rocket propelled grenades, two rocket launchers and a number of bullets,” KDF spokesman said.

On March 20, KDF killed 34 al Shabaab militants in two separate incidents in Somalia and two of their soldiers were killed in an ambush.

The KDF killed 21 of the insurgents in the southern town of Afmadow in the ambush in which the two soldiers died.

Obonyo said Kenyan troops killed a further 13 fighters just north of Ras Kamboni, also in southern Somalia.

The Kenyan forces went to Somalia in 2011 and have been pacifying several places as they fight the militants.
