Amnesty International’s Regional Office for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes cordially invites you to “Human Rights Campaign in Somalia: Challenges and Projections” a Panel Discussion Event about the recent developments in Somalia, including disagreements on the election method and an upsurge of bombings by the Al-Shabaab armed group.
Speakers:
Dr Fatma Ali, Head of International Relations, United States International University (USIU), Nairobi campus. She will present on the recent political developments in Somalia, the politics of the August 2016 elections, and the possible post-elections’ scenarios.
Ms Erica Marsh, Senior Analyst Horn of Africa, Sahan Research. She will present on the various layers in the conflict, the current status of al-Shaabab as a social, political and military force, its impact on the on-going federalisation and statebuilding activities in the country, and projections for the next three years.
Ms Aisha Abdalla, MP, Federal Parliament. She will present on the human rights dimension of the recent developments and conflict situation as well as the challenges and opportunities of human rights campaign in the current environment.
