Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has reported that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) concealed in seven laptop computers were seized on 15 May 2016 from a property in Mogadishu’s Howlwadag district.
A NISA spokesperson stated that Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen (Al-Shabaab) was preparing the IEDs to conduct suicide attacks.
No arrests were reported or targets specified. Devices concealed inside electrical products have previously been detonated by Al-Shabaab on board a Daallo Airlines flight departing from Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on 2 February, at Beledweyne Airport security checkpoint on 7 February, and in the reception area of the Makka al-Mukarama Hotel in Mogadishu in November 2013.
