More than 140 died last week in combats with the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) in Afmadhow, Baja Juba, the website Hiiraan Online reported today.
The clash was on for more than three hours and according to reports, around 500 Al-Shabab members on eight armed pick-up trucks and four trucks tried to invade zones defended by the troops of Jubaland in the city of Afmadhow.
The attackers werer concentrated first at a police station, but they were repelled by the security forces in Jubaland and troops of the Somalian National Army, be fore the Kenyan Special Forces arrived at the combat scene.
However, the soldiers destroyed two vehicles equipped with armament and killed many extremists.
According to Hiiraan Oline, a small KDF special-force unit surrounded the attackers and used portable 60-millimeter mortars and machine guns to finally defeat them.
The Al-Shabab guerrillas withdrew to the city of Miido, while KDF intensified its persecution.
