Four Somali security guards injured in blast near UN compound

At least four Somali security guards working for the United Nations were injured Wednesday when a UN vehicle exploded inside a garage in the capital Mogadishu, officials said.

A bomb had been attached to the vehicle, which had been parked in a garage next to a compound of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), according to Somali security officials.

The explosion injured nearby security guards, they said.

It was unclear when and where the bomb had been attached to the vehicle, said a UN source who asked not to be named. He said the UN was investigating the incident.

No group immediately claimed the attack, but such bombings are frequently claimed by the radical Islamist group al-Shabaab.
