Teenager whose family fled war-torn Somalia wins Marlborough College scholarship

A TEENAGER whose family fled war-torn Somalia for England in 1987 has just won a scholarship to Marlborough College.

Nadia Hassan, who lives in a council house in London with her mother and brother, was given the William Morris all-round scholarship.

The 16-year-old, who currently attends George Mitchell School in Leyton and has ambitions to become prime minister, will receive a grant of £3,400 a year on top of her fees for uniform, books and school trips.

Master of Marlborough College Jonathan Leigh said: “We are delighted that Nadia will join us at Marlborough College. We look forward to helping her to achieve her dreams and to future collaboration with the George Mitchell School, and headteacher Saeed Hussain.”
