The Coordinator of East Africa Seafarers, Andrew Mwangura told Xinhua that the rescue mission carried out by an elite squad was successful.
“It was a well coordinated rescue operation and Njoki has been freed from her captors. She is currently undergoing medical checkup and will be repatriated to Kenya to reunite with her family,” said Mwangura.
Njoki was captured along with her partner James Kuria while delivering medicine to Mogadishu in 2014.
Kuria was freed during a raid by Somali security forces in February last year.
However, two Kenyan nationals including George Macharia Mburu and George Macharia Njoki who were abducted by a Somalia militia in 2014 are still in the hands of their captors.
The two were working for a construction company in Mogadishu when they were kidnapped by a militia from Habargidir region of Somaliland.
Another Kenyan, Patrick Amukhuma who was kidnapped by Somalia pirates in 2008 is yet to be rescued.
