Germany’s Merz says EU can reach compromise on use of frozen Russian assets

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed confidence that a way forward on an agreement on the use of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s needs is possible.

“My impression is that we can come to an agreement. I understand the concerns by some member states, particularly by the Belgian government, but I hope that we can address them together,” Merz said, speaking to reporters ahead of the EU summit in Brussels.
