In recent days, a series of targeted airstrikes have been carried out in different parts of southern Somalia, mainly focusing on senior Al-Shabaab leaders, foreign trainers, and critical equipment. These operations have resulted in the death and injury of several key figures within the group, as well as the destruction of vital military supplies. Below is a breakdown of the four major strikes:
First Strike
In an area between Bu’ale district and a location called Sariiraha, a vehicle carrying senior foreign officers who were conducting training was struck.
The vehicle was hit while carrying 4 officers whose names were:
1. Abu Fahad (Sudanese) – he was shot in the left chest.
2. Abu Saleban – a Pakistani.
3. Abu Jaafar – a Moroccan.
4. Abu Maalig – also an officer, but he was the driver of the vehicle.
Second Strike
In an area between Xaramka and Kunya Barrow, important equipment brought by the Houthis for Al-Shabaab was struck. This equipment included drones and explosives.
Third Strike
On the outskirts of Sablaale district, a location where officers were residing and holding a meeting was struck. These officers were from Al-Shabaab’s defense wing and were planning major attacks.
A large number were killed there.
Even Sheikh Ali Dheere, who was attending the closing of a training session, was present. The training center, named Sheikh Mohamed Mire Training Camp, was being closed by Ali Dheere in recent days, and many militants were in attendance.
Fourth Strike
This strike took place in the Bulafulay area, where senior Al-Shabaab leaders were present.
Among them were:
The Wali of Mogadishu, Sheikh Muse Abdi Caraale,
Fu’ad Shongole,
Sheikh Hassan Yaquub (though it is not confirmed whether he was affected).
It is confirmed, however, that the Wali of Banadir region, Sheikh Muse Abdi Caraale, sustained minor injuries. Other officers were killed, including Abu Qataata, who was the top commander of the suicide bombers.
