SOMA has launched comprehensive safety training workshop for media editors in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Sunday, June 18, 2023: The Somali Media Association (SOMA) has organized and launched today a three – day comprehensive safety training workshop for media editors in Mogadishu city, Somalia.

The training organized by SOMA and supported by IMS/FOJO has been participated by thirty editors from the various media outlets operational in Mogadishu city, Banadir region, Somalia.

The training workshop was intended to improve the safety of journalists operating in hostile and risky environment through capacity building with the editors and journalists.

In his opening remarks, Mohamed Osman Makaran, Secretary of the Somali Media Association (SOMA) pointed out this training is different from other trainings, and will specifically focus on how the journalist at first think of his safety as priority and at the same time transfer comprehensive information for the community.

By the end of the training workshop, its expected the editors will eventually transfer the knowledge gained from this capacity building program to their respective media stations.

Earlier the Somali Media Association (SOMA) has conducted similar training workshop for forty editors enhancing the safety for the Somali journalists in Beletweyne city , Hirshabelle State and Dhuusamareeb city , Galmudug State during last month.
