Due to a drought, five million Somalis barely have enough to eat, a figure that represents 4 out of 10 people in the country, according to the United Nations.
According to the media today, the amount of people on the brink of starvation has increased by 300,000 since February, amid a conflict between Al Shabab, who are opposed to the Government and Government forces backed by the African Union Mission (Amisom).
Thousands of refugees returned to Somalia this year from the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, which is to close in November.
Kenya said that Dadaab, which provides more than 300,000 displaced Somalis with shelter, was being used by Al Shabab as a base for its attacks on targets in Kenyan.
More than 300,000 children under five suffer from acute malnutrition in the country and more than 50,000 suffer from severe malnutrition, said the United Nations, while asking for additional funds for its operations.
