roadside improvised explosive device exploded eight miles outside Somalia’s capital Mogadishu yesterday.
The fatal incident took place in Taredishe village. Witnesses told on condition of anonymity, that the bomb missed a Somali national army vehicle and impacted a civilian minibus killing three and injuring two. The victims of the blast were taken to a nearby hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack however the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab frequently strikes targets in densely populated areas near Mogadishu.
Last week, the United States and Somalia’s national security forces conducted a counter-terrorism raid in Lower Shabelle region, rescuing some 30 children from Al-Shabaab.
Al-Shabaab seeks to dislodge the Somali government and implement a strict version of Islamic law across Somalia. In 2012 the group pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda.
