The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has condemned, in the strongest terms, the bombings that were carried out by the Al Shabaab terrorist group in the proximity of the Amisom (AU Mission in Somalia) and United Nations Base Camps, as well as the Mogadishu International Airport, on July 26.
An African Union Commission (AUC) press release late Thursday in Addis Ababa reported that the Chairperson said she was outraged by the loss of lives of innocent civilians and Amisom personnel.
Dlamini-Zuma added she was also appalled by the destruction of property that resulted from the bombings.
The Chairperson expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
She also expressed her solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia, as well as Troop and Police Contributing Countries.
Dlamini-Zuma stressed that the terrorist acts would not weaken the resolve of the African Union to support the Government and people of Somalia in their stabilisation efforts, including the holding of elections in 2016.
