ROME – Roughly 7,000 people have been killed and nearly 37,000 injured in Yemen since the start of the civil war 20 months ago, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

In addition, at least 21 million people are in urgent need of health care, while the situation is compounded by a recent outbreak of cholera with 71 cases confirmed so far. To these must be added “an estimated 2,241 suspected cases”, the WHO added. Meanwhile the UN refugee agency UNHCR has estimated that over 2.4 million people are internally displaced, while 120,000 have fled to other countries including Djibouti and Somalia.
