Somalia: Jeenyo Wins Somali General DA’ud Cup

Jeenyo FC has won the 2016 edition of the Somalia General Da’ud Cup after beating rivals Banadir SC 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 tie in the final on Sunday (30 October 2016) at the Banadir Stadium.

Banadir, current Somali league champions took the lead of the hotly-contested match in the 40th minute courtesy Kiene Kafunyo before Qeys Abdulle Moalim doubled the lead three minutes to recess.

Jeenyo replied on the stroke of half time through Abdi Aziz Mohamed Atosh before Mohamed Abdi Nur levelled on 65 minutes.

With no winner in regulation time and after extra time, the match headed for penalties where Jeenyo triumphed 4-1.

General Da’ud Cup is the second most popular football tournament in Somalia after the National Football league. Organised annually since 1972, it is played in honour of General Da’ud Abdulle, the founding father of Somalia Armed Forces, who passed away in 1965.
