Gov. Mark Dayton will attend a Somali cultural event April 2 at St. Cloud State University.

Dayton’s spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the DFL governor will be a guest at “A Night to Remember,” the Somali Student Association’s ninth annual Somali Night.

The event is part of a series of cultural festivals presented by St. Cloud State students and seeks to bring together the Somali and greater St. Cloud communities.

The show, in the Atwood Memorial Center ballroom, will feature traditional dances, poems, fashion show, talent show and speeches by members of Minnesota’s Somali community.

Dayton was invited to attend the cultural festival by Somali Student Association President Aziza Mohamed in October when the governor attended the St. Cloud NAACP-sponsored community conversation at the St. Cloud Public Library.
